Curricular Practical Training (CPT) (for F‐1 students)
CPT is the type of employment authorization used by students in F‐1 status who wish or need to engage in off campus employment in their field of study when it is a required component of their curriculum, is integral to their thesis or dissertation research (e.g., collecting data or testing hypotheses in a real world industry environment) or is part of a cooperative education program in their field of study.
The Career Development Center has begun accepting CPT applications for the fall 2015 semester. If interested, please follow the instructions on the OIS CPT web page and in the online presentation. Students will drop off their CPT applications to the Career Development Center (2100 Pullen Hall) to initiate the CPT process. After review by the Career Development Center, the student’s application materials will be forwarded to OIS. The student will receive an email if additional materials are required or when the new CPT I-20 is processed, which may take up to ten business days. All international students must receive authorization prior to beginning work at an off campus location.
The deadline to submit a fall 2015 full-time CPT application is Tuesday, September 1, 2015.
The deadline to submit a fall 2015 part-time CPT application is Wednesday, October 7, 2015.
Student are reminded that the CPT work authorization dates for the fall 2015 semester may be no earlier than August 1, 2015 and no later than January 5, 2016*.
