Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is a type of employment authorization used by students in F‐1 status who wish or need to engage in off-campus employment in their field of study when it is a required component of their curriculum, is integral to their thesis or dissertation research (e.g., collecting data or testing hypotheses in a real world industry environment), or is part of a cooperative education program in their field of study.
The Career Development Center is still accepting CPT applications for the fall 2015 semester. If interested, please follow the instructions on the OIS CPT web page and in the online presentation. Students will drop off their CPT applications to the Career Development Center (2100 Pullen Hall) to initiate the CPT process. After an initial review, the student’s application materials will be forwarded to OIS. An email will then be sent to the student if additional materials are required or when the new I-20 authorizing CPT is processed, which, please note, may take up to ten business days. All international students must receive authorization prior to beginning work at an off-campus location.
The deadline to submit a fall 2015 full-time CPT application has passed.
The deadline to submit a fall 2015 part-time CPT application is Wednesday, October 7, 2015.
Students are reminded that the CPT work authorization end date for the fall 2015 semester must be no later than January 5, 2016*.
[*unless the student is completing degree requirements during the fall 2015 semester]
Students who are eligible for and would like to request an extension of a current CPT (i.e. an additional few days or weeks within the same semester) for the same employer will need to request the employer to e-mail OIS and their Co-op advisor confirming the new end date and that the student’s job location, job title and description have not changed. This email must be received 3 weeks prior to the current CPT end date or the extension will not be processed and you must stop working on your CPT end date, without exceptions.
Students who are eligible for and would like to request a second rotation or additional semester of CPT should complete the CPT application materials again by following the steps outlined above, as all new material will be required.
