America Through Our Eyes Photo Contest

Yu Feng- 2014 Best of Show Winner

OIS will begin accepting photos for the America Through Our Eyes Photo Contest on Monday, September 21st.  This contest is a great opportunity for international students to express their view of America from their travels and experiences. Submissions will remain open until Sunday, November 1st. Winners will be selected by OIS staff members and will be announced by Friday, November 6th. Prizes will be awarded to for the Best of Show as well as 1st place for each of the three categories. Photos submitted to the contest will be displayed on the Commons Wall in Hunt Library from November 16-30th. Submit Your Photos Here.

 


OIS Fall Fest


On Friday, October 16th at 2:30 P.M., the OIS will provide transportation to Phillips Farms where students can find their way through a corn maze, fire the Pumpkin Launcher, enjoy a hayride around the farm, and participate in other fun farm activities. Tickets are $8/adult and $5/child (3-12 years old). Registration is required and tickets must be paid for in advance. Space in the van is limited and spots will be given on a first come, first serve basis. Please register here to save your spot.


NC State Men’s Soccer – International Night

soccerThe OIS is collaborating with NC State’s men’s soccer team to host an International Night on Monday, October 19th against Appalachian State! The game starts at 7 P.M. at the Dail Soccer Field and Track Complex. Entry is free for students and there will be giveaways. Sign up here to represent your country in the Parade of Flags during half-time!

 

 


On-Campus Job Fair

New to NC State? Looking for on an on-campus job, but not sure where to start? Visit the New Student On-Campus Job Fair hosted by New Student Programs and University Student Centers for information about current and future on-campus job opportunities! This event is open to undergraduate and graduate students.

The job fair will be held on Wednesday, October 14th, 2 P.M. – 4 P.M. in the Talley Ballroom.

Please note, the OIS will have at table at the Job Fair, however we will be in attendance only as a resource for students or employers who have questions about employment requirements or restrictions.


International Tea and Coffee

As part of NC State’s International Education Month programming, the OIS, in collaboration with several international student organizations, will host our annual International Tea and Coffee event tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, November 18th, from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. in the Duke Energy Hall in Hunt Library. Sample tea, coffee, and snacks from all over the world! This event is free and  open to all students, scholars, and community members.

 


Think & Do in Two: Global Storytelling Competition

The Study Abroad Office will be hosting the first ever Global Storytelling Competition at NC State University.

Students will present 6 images in a 2 minute PowerPoint presentation.  The presentation should be more of a narrative (rather than solely discussing the pictures). The spoken word/narrative can be a prose, poem, song, a journal entry or any other creative way of presenting your photos.The finalists will then be required to present at the Think and Do in Two: Global Storytelling Competition on Wednesday, November 4th  at 6:30 PM.

Pangea Race

During International Education Month, the OIS will also host our 5th annual Pangea Race! Students work in diverse teams to solve clues and complete challenges across campus to finish the course as quickly as possible. Winning teams will receive prizes! You can sign up as a “free agent” and we will place you on a team or you can grab your friends and sign up as a team (4-6 people).  You may even want to consider inviting your CCAP group members or Small Pack members to form a team.  The more diverse your team the better your chances of winning! More details about the event and how to register will be announced in the next few weeks.
