On Thursday, March 31st, two OIS staff members were recognized for their contributions to NC State at the Provost Unit’s 2016 University Awards for Excellence reception. The Office of International Services would like to congratulate Kelia Hubbard and Carl Thomas for receiving Awards for Excellence.
The NC State University Awards for Excellence is the most prestigious honor bestowed upon non-faculty employees. NC State University Awards for Excellence candidates are nominated in one of the following categories: Customer Service, Efficiency and Innovation, Heroism, Human Relations, Outstanding State Government Service, Public Service and Spirit of North Carolina.
Kelia Hubbard, Assistant Director for Advising
- Nominated in the Human Relations Category
- “As Assistant Director for Advising in the Office of International Services Kelia Hubbard repeatedly and regularly exemplifies excellence in the category of Human Relations. Even through difficult, sometimes stressful advising situations and heavy advising loads, Kelia never loses sight of the people behind the processes. As international students navigate their way through their studies at NC State Kelia is a steady, reliable, and compassionate advocate for them. Kelia earns and keeps the trust and respect of her teammates and campus partners in large part because she is willing and able to show them the same trust and respect. In short, she keeps dignity and respect for herself and others at the center of all of her dealings.”
Carl Thomas, International Student Services Coordinator and Office Manager
- Nominated in the Efficiency and Innovation Category
- As Coordinator and Office Manager, Carl has actively sought out ways to improve the services and efficiency of the unit. He has improved functions at the front desk by providing consistency in communications with OIS staff, training student workers and updating the office’s intake process. Carl’s sincere yet calm demeanor is reflected in his interactions with all constituents, particularly the student population.
