Curricular Practical Training (CPT) for F‐1 students

OIS and the Career Development Center are still accepting Fall 2016 Curricular Practical Training (CPT) applications:  The deadline to submit a Fall 2016 part-time CPT application is Wednesday, October 5th.

(The deadline to submit a Fall 2016 full-time CPT application has already passed.)

CPT is a type of employment authorization* used by students in F‐1 status to engage in off-campus employment in their field of study when it is a required component of their curriculum, integral to their thesis or dissertation research (e.g., collecting data or testing hypotheses in a real world industry environment) or part of a cooperative education program in their field of study.

Please consult the OIS CPT webpage for eligibility requirements, the application process, and other important information.

Completed CPT application materials are submitted by the student to the Career Development Center (2100 Pullen Hall).  After review, these are then forwarded to OIS for final approval and authorization.  The student will receive an email if additional materials are required and/or when the new CPT I-20 is processed, which normally takes between 5 and 10 business days from the day OIS receives the materials.

[If you are already on an authorized Fall CPT, and wish to extend this (the last possible day of extension for a Fall 2016 CPT is January 8, 2017), please make your request at least 3 weeks prior to your current CPT end date.  Please consult the OIS CPT webpage for more information about this.]

*All international students must receive authorization prior to beginning any off-campus employment.
