OIS Programs – Fall 2016 Special Events

Aside from the ongoing OIS Programs you have probably heard a lot about by now, the fall is always a busy semester for OIS programming staff with Orientation, International Education Month programming in November, and special events. Below are just a few of the events the OIS Programs staff is supporting or hosting this semester. We hope to see you there!

Go Global with the Global Colors Shack at Shack-a-Thon

Facebook Shackathon

“Shack-A-Thon is a student-run fundraiser that started at NC State in 1998 with one shack and a few passionate students wanting to bring awareness to the issue of affordable housing.  Over the past 19 years, the event has raised more than $340,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Wake County. In 2015 forty-six student organizations erected 22 shacks on the Brickyard in the heart of NC State’s campus.  With the help of hundreds of students, the 2015 Shack-A-Thon fundraising effort raised more than $65,000, enough to build an entire home, and a 40% increase from the 2014 total.  Largely due to Shack-A-Thon’s increasing success, the NC State Habitat for Humanity Chapter has helped sponsor and build 22 homes since it was founded in 1991. This year you can be a part of making home number 23 a reality.” – shackathon.org

The Global Colors Shack will be built by students from Alternative Service Break, Arts Village, Cultural Exchange Network (CENet), and Global Village. International students are encouraged to participate by joining the Global Colors crew.

The Global Colors Shack is looking for students who can donate an hour here and there on the brickyard to sell their talents for donations.
Talents include: baking, henna tattoos, needle craft, arts, music, dance, etc.
Email rcibuls@ncsu.edu to get on the schedule (materials will be provided!)

Join the Global Colors Facebook page and check out the Global Colors information page to learn more about how to get involved and support the project.
