Optional Practical Training (OPT) Application Reminder

Students who plan to complete their degree program in the fall semester are eligible to apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT), a period of work authorization for which F-1 students may apply in order to gain experience in their field by working in the US.  Undergraduate and non-thesis master’s students may request their OPT to begin any day within 60 days of 12/16/2016 (fall graduation date) and thesis and dissertation students may request their OPT to begin within 60 days of either 12/16/2016 or their scheduled defense date if the defense is scheduled before 12/16/2016.

To apply for OPT, students must attend an OPT drop-off session with an OIS advisor. These sessions are held at OIS on Mondays and Thursdays at 9:30 am. Students must arrive at 9:30 am with all required materials in order to attend the session. For more information about what to bring with you to your OPT drop off session, please visit our website.
