Ian Valentine Menezes, Master of Science in Computer Science

Tell us about yourself.

Hard Work always pays off. No matter the situation or the time, if you work towards it, you will see results. The pandemic disrupted our lives but we found (or in some case, have to find) a reason to continue. It’s the goal that drives us and it’s the cause that unites us. Be it education, your career or simply getting through the day. Hold on to it and let it remind you the why behind what you do.

Looking forward to bigger and brighter days…

How was your experience at NC State University?

I’ve had a wonderful two years at NC State University. While it does include the occasional studying with some tests and exams, it comes packaged with it’s own set of challenges and provides us with the necessary means to tackle them. I faced a few myself but always had recourse in career guidance, academic counseling and even adjusting to the pandemic. It was an uncertain period but it kept our cool and calm. It also would not be possible with the added support of my friends, family and especially my sister. It was a wholesome experience and will forever stay memorable. Proud Wolf!

What would you say is your biggest accomplishment during your time at NC State?

Obtaining the degree, finally! It’s so cathartic. Few (or many) may not relate, but the amount of work we put in and the number of hours we slogged, semester-after-semester and still continue relentlessly is in fact an accomplishment in itself. This learning is not easy, not everyone is privileged enough to take it up, and the ones that do – Take pride in it. This is a milestone achievement.

What are your plans post graduation?

I plan to join Bosch’s startup Security and Safety Things in Pittsburgh, PA as a Software Engineer in Android and IoT.

Do you have any advice for current or incoming international students?

NETWORKING. I cannot emphasize more on how this can help you get ahead in your career early-on. You may not have a polished skill-set or a 4.0 GPA backing you, but the ability of communication can get you opportunities what the other two fail to secure.
