Academic Changes and Support

NC State’s Disability Resource Office has published a resource titled Student Strategies for Online Learning. Visit this online resource for a wide range of information that should prove helpful to all students.

Supplies are limited, but students can request to borrow laptops on a long-term basis. If your request is approved, you will need to pick up the laptop from D.H. Hill Library, between 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Remember to bring your campus ID as you will need it for entry into the library. 

The University Tutorial Center is now known as the Academic Success Center (ASC), which is located on the 2nd floor in the newly renovated D.H. Hill Jr. Library. The ASC will continue to offer drop-in tutoring, group tutoring, one-on-one tutoring, writing appointments, and Supplemental Instruction (SI). ASC has expanded the list of courses it will support this semester, and online resources have been added to the new ASC website. All ASC services will be offered virtually by peer tutors and mentors during Spring 2021. Please visit asc.dasa.ncsu.edu for more information.  

In addition to the tutorial services, ASC staff offer many other programs, including a new academic peer mentoring program for students seeking regular support with time management and study skills.

Speak with your academic Advisor or DGP; contact OIS, or consider reaching out to Tony Shurer–Academic Coordinator for International Student Support. Tony continues to host virtual “drop-in” hours every Monday and Thursday. You can request guidance on a variety of academic questions and concerns regarding major exploration, major change, and academic policy. You may also request assistance in developing strategies for academic success. This could include conversations about goal setting, time management, study skills, note-taking, test preparation and more.

If your schedule does not permit you to attend Drop-In hours on Mondays or Thursdays, please feel free to email your questions or concerns to Tony Shurer directly at ajshurer@ncsu.edu. Individual appointments can be scheduled as needed.

No, beginning in the Summer 1 session of 2021, NC State has returned to the normal grading and drop-add procedures. The Enhanced Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U) Grading Option and the Enhanced Late Drop Option that were both initially introduced for the Spring 2020 semester are no longer available.

Students who wish to enroll in a class on a credit-only grading basis (S/U) should carefully review the university’s regulation on Credit-Only Courses – REG 02.20.15.

Students will no longer be able to drop a class after the Drop/Schedule Revision Deadline for a given term. All schedule revisions made after the Drop/Schedule Revision Deadline require a Schedule Revision form for processing


If you are considering course changes that will result in your enrollment falling below full time, make sure to first consult your OIS advisor before taking any action to discuss what impact the resulting enrollment changes may have on your immigration record
