Settling In Mini-Sessions

In the weeks following the start of the semester, OIS hosts virtual sessions with partners from across campus and the community to continue introducing international students to information they may need to know as they continue to settle in Raleigh.

Each session will be 30 minutes in length and recordings will be posted here for those students unable to attend live. You must be log in with your unity id to view recordings.

Fall 2023 Mini-Sessions

Applying for a Social Security Number

OIS staff will provide an overview of the Social Security application process with tips on how to have a successful Social Security visit.

Managing Stress During Study in the United States

The Counseling Center offers valuable mental health resources to help students thrive and manage daily stress. In this session, Counseling Center staff will highlight programs, such as International Tea Time, Let’s Chat/Let’s Talk, and the International USO Group. Additionally, clinicians will be available to briefly meet one-on-one with students and answer questions in Breakout Rooms.

Come learn tips for being a consumer in the United States. Learn how to shop smart and save money.

Safety

NC State University Police will share safety resources and advice to help students stay safe while at NC State.

Eating Healthy in the US

Hear from a registered dietitian in Campus Health about how to eat healthy in the United States, including how to understand nutrition labels and how to navigate US grocery stores to make healthy choices.

Navigating Campus Health

Campus Health staff members will discuss the healthcare services available at the Campus Health Center and wellness resources around campus. Come learn about the various medical care you can receive at NC State.

Understanding Taxes in the US

We will discuss what you need to know about US taxation with a focus on income taxes and the annual tax filing process.

Career Development Center

Students have access to incredible career-related resources through the Career Development Center. Staff from the CDC will share resources with students to support them through the internship search process.
